Titanium Post Mount Disc Brake Mount – Precision Disc Brake Tab for Custom Frames
What Is a Post Mount?
The Post Mount is the industry-standard threaded mounting interface for disc brake calipers. Unlike ISO mounts (which use unthreaded holes with bolts passing through from the opposite side), Post Mount features two threaded M6×1 holes spaced 74mm apart on the frame or fork. The caliper bolts directly into these threaded holes — with or without adapters depending on rotor size.
Key Post Mount specifications:
-
Hole spacing: 74mm (center-to-center)
-
Thread: M6×1 (standard metric coarse)
-
Mounting orientation: Caliper bolts directly into frame/fork
-
Thread engagement: 9-13mm minimum recommended for secure mounting
Precision-Mitered for 38mm OD Round Dropouts
This Post Mount is specifically designed for 38mm outer diameter round dropouts. The mount requires mitering (contour-matching) to perfectly fit the dropout's curved profile — ensuring a clean, strong weld joint and proper caliper alignment.
Rotor Compatibility – 160mm
Adapter notes:
-
160mm rotor: Direct mount (no adapter needed on 160mm-native frames)
Installation Notes
The Post Mount is typically TIG welded onto the frame dropout at the designated mounting position.
Important considerations:
-
Mitering required: The mount must be precisely contoured to match the 38mm dropout radius for proper fit and a clean weld joint
-
Ensure proper alignment before welding — caliper mounting holes must be parallel to the rotor plane
-
Use appropriate heat control to maintain material properties (Grade 5 titanium requires proper shielding gas)
-
Post-weld cleaning recommended for cosmetic finish
-
Face the mount after welding for perfect caliper alignment
-
Minimum thread engagement: 9-13mm of M6 bolt thread
-
Recommended torque: 6-8 Nm for caliper fixing bolts
Compatibility
